Maryland MedTech Meetup

The quarterly Maryland MedTech Meetup was an incredible event that brought together executive-level professionals from across the industry. This roundtable meeting focused on the manufacturing, engineering, and development of medical technology, diagnostic/imaging devices, and telehealth software. The HCEDA co-sponsored the event in partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce, highlighting the strong collaborative efforts in supporting Maryland’s MedTech sector.

 

Maryland MedTech Meetup Overview

Approximately 30 MedTech companies attended the meetup, representing a broad spectrum of expertise and innovation in the field. The event provided a platform for professionals to network, share insights, and discuss the latest trends and challenges in the industry. It was encouraging to see several Howard County companies in attendance, including a few residents and affiliates of the Maryland Innovation Center (MIC), as well as HCEDA loan clients.

 

Howard County Companies in Attendance

Among the notable Howard County participants were:

  • Michelle Crawley from Xcision Medical, a loan recipient. Michelle’s involvement with Xcision Medical has been instrumental in advancing their cutting-edge cancer treatment technologies.
  • Ashok from Hawkeye MedTech, an MIC graduate. Hawkeye MedTech is known for its innovative telehealth solutions that have significantly impacted healthcare delivery.
  • Kim Wolf from Hello BackPack, a Howard County-based company. Hello BackPack focuses on creating educational tools and technologies that support both teachers and students.
  • Yoseph Kim from Optosurgical, a current MIC resident. Optosurgical specializes in developing advanced surgical tools and technologies that enhance precision and outcomes in medical procedures.

Insights and Discussions

During the meetup, HCEDA took the opportunity to share valuable information about the resources and services available to MedTech companies in Howard County. These resources are designed to support the growth and development of innovative businesses in the region. The discussion also allowed MedTech companies to exchange updates on their recent accomplishments, upcoming events, current projects, and investor needs and opportunities.

 

One of the highlights of the event was the collaborative atmosphere. Companies were eager to share their success stories and challenges, fostering a sense of community and mutual support. This environment not only facilitated networking but also encouraged the sharing of best practices and innovative ideas that can drive the industry forward.

 

Key Attendees and Highlights

In addition to the Howard County companies, the event saw participation from key representatives from the Maryland Department of Commerce. Notable attendees included:

  • Matt Cimino, Manager of Business and Innovation Development, Life Sciences. Matt’s role is crucial in fostering innovation and supporting the life sciences sector in Maryland.
  • Ivy Gales, Senior Business Development Representative. Ivy is known for her efforts in business development and her dedication to supporting companies in the MedTech industry.

The event also featured important figures from the MedTech community:

  • Stefanie Trop, Director, Office of Life Science, Maryland Department of Commerce, co-sponsor of the event. Stefanie’s leadership and support were vital in the organization and success of the meetup.
  • Marcia Hart from Djit Medtech, Inc., Dan Conner from FlaxorX, and Chad Schneider from Root3 Labs, who were prominent participants in the discussions.

Looking Ahead

The Maryland MedTech Meetup was a resounding success, thanks to the active participation and enthusiasm of all attendees. The event not only highlighted the strength and diversity of the MedTech sector in Maryland but also underscored the importance of collaboration and community support in driving innovation.
