MCE Affiliate Company, Generosity Global, Building Mobile Showers for Homeless Communities

Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship (MCE) affiliate company, Generosity Global Inc., is preparing to launch their newest program later this fall, Generosity Shower, a mobile shower service for homeless communities.

The vision to introduce this service for the 4,000 plus men and women who are homeless in Baltimore City became evident to Generosity Global two years ago while serving food to the homeless guests through their monthly outreach program, Selfless Saturday. Through direct engagement and interviews, it was uncovered that people had a need to take daily showers and there was a void in services that provided personal hygiene accommodations.

“The vision is to provide a place where people can come shower and feel as though they just showered in a 5-star hotel,” says Rich Akwo, Founder and Chief Impact Officer of Generosity Global. With the help of a few early corporate partners and sponsors, Generosity Global is on track to launch the shower trailer later this fall and excited to extend a much-needed human service to our most vulnerable citizens. With the success of their current project, Generosity Global aims to extend their services regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Through fundraising campaigns and donations, Generosity Global Inc. raised enough funds to build a 32-foot trailer, that is now in the process of being retrofitted into shower stalls on wheels. Generosity Shower will feature five shower stalls (2 of which are handicap accessible), a luxurious interior design, and have the capacity to give showers to 120 persons each day.

Generosity Global is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization with a mission to leverage the power of generosity to do good around the world and help homeless communities move from a place of crisis to self-sufficiency. Locally, Generosity Global focuses on providing meals and daily showers to urban areas of Maryland. Globally, Generosity Global provides clean drinking water to people in rural villages in sub-Saharan Africa.

“Howard County has long been recognized as a place where incorporating philanthropy into a company’s business model allows companies to connect with their community on a deeper level,” said CEO of the Howard County Economic Development Authority, Lawrence Twele. “The HCEDA is proud to support companies who believe in community engagement, and are finding ways to better serve the community as a whole.”
